Bettye
Lee-Nichols was born in Durant, Mississippi in 1950.She exhibited signs of
artistic abilities at an early age. She has produced art- work commercially
since age 15.
She majored in Early Elementary Education at Eastern Michigan University she has
audited classes at the University of Michigan, Wayne State, and Notre Dame.
Her
achievements include professional floral training and professional training in
mat cutting and frame making. Bettye has freelanced for several newspapers and
magazines executing lay-outs , ads, logos and illustrative work.
She
was commissioned by All State Insurance Company, People’s Protestant Church
and Christ Temple Church to render murals. Bettye has exhibited at the
following: Hilton Inn/Indianapolis, Indiana, Trotter House/Ann Arbor, Michigan,
Administration Building/University of Michigan, National Conference of
Artists/Detroit, Michigan, Benton Harbor Library/Benton Harbor, Michigan and
Adam C. Powell Library in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Cass County Library/Cassopolis,
Michigan, Western Michigan University and Indiana University of South Bend.
Bettye
has painted for creative Art Galleries of Kalamazoo for 5 years, and she also
painted for the Affordable Art Gallery of Chicago, and taught in Chicago for
Kinara Community Service. Her students were young girls from the age of 12 to 18
years old.
Upon
moving to Atlanta area she served as the artist in resident at Ebon Academy.
Bettye Lee-Nichols is an artist that works in various mediums; pencil, pen and ink, watercolor and oils. Religion, striking earth tones and family are her distinct signature.
