Chuks E.Okoye was born in Nigeria. He began
his education at the university of Nigeria at Nsukka, where he studied sculpture
and African Iconography. Continuing his studies in United States, 1983,Chuks his
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma in
1987.He majored in Product Design, with a minor in painting. After a brief
career, working as a designer, he opened his own business combining fine Art,
product Design and picture framing.
Okoye has chosen African-American art as his
primary form of Artistic expression. His media include mixed media, patel, oil
and acrylic. His recent venture into woodcarving has earned him an extraordinary
place in the art word as well. Churk has transformed his Art form into framed
and finished wood collages, thereby creating a contemporary feel to this
cultural reflection.
Churk’s paintings and sculptures are distinctive with a combination of realism
and abstraction, using African beads and woven silk/rayon thread to make symbols
and design. On Canvas, this technique creates a three dimensional effect. His
Art is truly representative of positive image that give rise to motivation and
hope in all people.In fact, Chuck consider himself pioneer in a new style of
painting he calls “ Abstract-Realism”.
While living in Dallas, he participated in
numerous Art exhibitions inclusive of the kinfolk’s, Ramses and African origin
of civilization, Atlanta’s National Black arts festival and many major Art
expos. His has been giving a lot of time, talent, and money to various
charitable organization and Schools such as the UNCF and Atlanta minority AIDS
foundation.
He is active involvement in the civic and Art Community has earned him countless
award and recognitions around the country and abroad. Chuks is a recognized
member of the Nigerian Elite Art Society.
Chucks original works have been collected by
several music and entertainment celebrities, such as R&B Artist, Keith
sweat, regionald Val-Johnson of TV sitcom. “Family matters “ and Bill
Cosby’s co-star T’keyah keymah, to name a few.
His work has been distributed to gallery,
schools, churches, public institutions and private collections throughout the
USA and oversea. He resides in a suburb of Atlanta Geogia. His work is being
